I am trying to compile mod_python 3.3.1 on an AMD 64bit CPU

This is what I get:

/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.3/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
/usr/local/encap/python-2.4.1/lib/python2.4/config/libpython2.4.a(abstract.o
): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when
making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

/usr/local/encap/python-2.4.1/lib/python2.4/config/libpython2.4.a: could not
read symbols: Bad value

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

apxs:Error: Command failed with rc=65536

.

make[1]: *** [mod_python.so] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory `/nail/sys/src/mod_python-3.3.1/src'

make: *** [do_dso] Error 2

#uname -a

Linux microtiger 2.6.25.5-1.1-default #1 SMP 2008-06-07 01:55:22 +0200
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

#gcc --version

gcc (SUSE Linux) 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision
135036]

Any help?

Thanks!
