[mod_python] how to create a 'submit' page while background function runs

Cam,
I've had good success with the AJAX file upload found at
http://www.webtoolkit.info/ajax-file-upload.html

It uses a hidden IFrame to load the file asynchronously. You can define a
'onStart' callback that writes your message to the client while the file is
uploading.
