I would invite you to try PSE, which gives you the best of both worlds. 
We're really close to a 3.0 version, so I would suggest getting the latest 
from the subversion repository at http://svn.gerf.org/svn/pse/trunk (or 
alternatively a slightly dated beta zip/tarball from 
http://nick.borko.org/pse/getting.html).
