[mod_python] php and mod_python compile problems with apache

i am having troubles building with php-4.0.1pl2 and mod_python-2.4.1
i compiled installed php then followed installs instructions for
mod_python then went to build apache with

./configure --prefix=/home/apache
--activate-module=src/modules/extra/mod_python.c \
--activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a

if i build with one or the other the build turns out ok. when i
build both modules together it flops


any help would be apreciated
