I'm afraid that could be the case. You'd probably be safest getting 
approval from the PSF and the ASF if you want to incorporate those 
graphics into a logo.

As a director of the PSF I can point you to

   http://www.python.org/psf/trademarks/

as a guideline to what would be considered acceptable. Email to 
psf-board at python.org should get you a fairly swift response. I happen to 
know there's a Board meeting next Monday.
